What is medical massage?
Medical massage is the means of curing or relieving a muscular problem. It is a specialized treatment involving a variety of techniques, which are designed to work on deep level of the body's tissues. This therapy can be of great value for any form of injury. Types of injury can be classified into two categories.
Traumatic injuries are sudden happening, when you know something has gone wrong, and you feel the immediate effects of the injury, perhaps pain, swelling, bruising and inflammation. The cause of the injury will vary according to circumstances and conditions. An example you may suddenly twist your torso, which can lead to problems in the lower or middle back. Remedial therapy is excellent at dealing with this type of condition.
Overuse injuries are more subtle, because they come on simply as a gradual increasing pain, directly associated with a particular, usually repetitive, activity tennis or golfers are good examples.
Why medical massage?
The most common of all injuries is the "over use" injury. It can develop slowly over a period of days, weeks or even years, and you may not be aware of the problem until it reaches an incapacitating stage. As well as dealing directly with the problem, remedial massage also identifies the possible cause of the problem - be it from occupational or everyday use of the body, repetitive strain, posture or compensation made by the body following previous injuries.
